Dinosaur Trampoline!

Ever since drawing this dinosaur I've been wanting to draw more. And so, here it is...

My favourite dinosaur as a child was the Triceratops so I couldn't resist drawing one. I had fun with this and I really like how the boy in particular turned out. I may do a few more of these in the future so watch this space.

Humpty Dumpty

I made myself a list of things to add to my portfolio that I haven't drawn before. Nursery Rhymes was the only thing on the list I hadn't covered.

Had fun with this one trying to not make it too complicated and just keeping the background nice and simple. Enjoy!

I've been wanting to do a space related illustration for a while. So here it is.

I started sketching this last night not really with a clear idea of what I was doing or where it would end up. Just started with a boy astronaut and it went from there. When I started inking I choose a thinner fineliner than I normally use and wasn't really worried about wobbly lines - I just went with it. Really had fun with this one and hope you like it.

Whisper, whisper! A quick sketch which is part of a spread. Fits well with this week's Illustration Friday.

Owl Doodle

Owl doodle for Wise Books - a charity secondhand bookshop.

Fairy Tales

Here's my submission for this month's theme over at The Pencil Play Collective. I choose this one too! I thought it might be fun to include a few different fairy tales - see if you can name them all.

I really struggled with this theme and it seems that I can't draw wolves.

A few close ups.

As usual there are things I like about this piece and things I don't. I'm really happy with how Jack and the giant turned out though.

A, B and C

I might do the rest of the alphabet at some point as I have a few ideas for other letters. Had a lot of fun doing these - my favourite is 'B'.

Drawings from 1994

So as promised here are some scans of some VERY old work. The first few drawings (in biro) are from an old 1994 diary. A lot of them were done when I was around 7 so that's going on 19 years! I started drawing at around 4 years old and never stopped. Scrap pieces of paper, envelopes, anything I could get my hands on and I was doodling all over them. As you'll see from this post I don't throw much away and still have a file full of old stuff. So thought I would share some of them with you.

I seemed to like drawing girls and there are a few of this one in particular. This makes a change from what I normally draw now!

 Some creepy faces!

I had a thing about drawing babies and girls with babies in their bellies. I think this might be because I had a Barbie doll where you could pop the baby from her belly.

I liked drawing mermaids too!

Aww, it's a teddy bear.

I was terrible at drawing horses and they're still something I am not so good at.

There are a few things I notice from looking through the diary, one of them is I struggled to draw hands (I still do) and the other is that is there are no drawings of monkeys! The diary is full of badly drawn horses, drawings of girls, mermaids, clowns, faces and stories with bad spelling about magic queens and magic rings.

As I got older the one thing I started to draw more than anything else was The Simpsons. I became obsessed with them at around 8 years old and it inspired me to carry on drawing. Matt Groening was my idol! I collected everything with them on and still have a lot of it (hoarder alert!).

Hope you enjoyed seeing some terrible drawings from my childhood. And if you have any, I'd love to see them :)

Dinosaur Slide!

This is exactly what I would do if I saw a T- Rex. Well either this or run away.

This is the dinosaur I had to draw to balance out my last illustration (the girly princess one). I'm not sure I've ever drawn a dinosaur before but I enjoyed doing it. I even went for an open mouth on the little girl too - something I don't normally do. Trying to challenge myself a bit more and there isn't a monkey in sight!
